77 Phantom Gourmet review of Four Seas Ice Cream

Rating:

Phantom Approved

Atmosphere:

9

Four Seas Ice Cream in Centerville is a picture perfect parlor with charming swivel stools at the counter. The blue and white themed sweet shop houses old fashioned dipping cabinets and a dining area framed with decades of newspaper articles.

Menu:

9

The traditional menu lists thirty-four flavors with an awesome 16% butterfat content. They refuse to offer gimmicky toppings like jimmies, instead opting for unusually fine homemade sauces.

Appetizers:

7

For a savory start, the tasty Cream Cheese Sandwich showed flecks of cinnamon interspersed with chopped dates and crunchy nuts. The more filling Lobster Sandwich mixed fresh, seasoned lobster chunks with mayo and celery, all piled neatly onto whole wheat bread.

Entrees:

8

The main course included a creamy Coffee Sundae, jolted with luxurious maple syrup soaked walnuts. Four Seas invented Chip Chocolate Ice Cream, peppered with finely chopped cocoa tidbits, and Phantom enjoyed it with a drizzle of intense, fluorescent green cr è me de menthe syrup and a halo of whipped cream.

Desserts:

7

To cleanse the palate, a scoop of tangy Cranberry Sherbet delivered a calming icy smoothness with the occasional burst of chewy fruit. Last of all, a perky Root Beer Float shed its milky layers into an effervescent sassafras soda.

Portions:

7

Ice cream comes in three different sizes, although Phantom was only satisfied by the large. Sundaes come in Diet Size and Regular.

Service:

7

There were so many welcoming workers on hand that ordering went quickly and efficiently.

Cleanliness:

7

Phantom had to dust off his swivel stool before taking a seat, but moderate cleanup was to be expected in a popular eatery with so many patrons.

Value:

8

Cups and cones cost a modest price at $2 to $3.25, and sundaes average $3.50.

Location:
